Robotic cardiac surgery

The Bangkok Heart Hospital is equipped with the da Vinci Surgical System, which is changing the face of cardiac surgery around the world. Surgery using this ultra-modern robotic surgical system provides patients with a less invasive alternative to cardiac surgery that is marked by decreased postoperative pain, quicker recovery times, faster return to functionality, and improved cosmetic results for patients. It is at the leading edge of a new frontier in surgery, that allows greater precision and better visualization for the cardiac surgeon, while letting him use smaller incisions thereby producing less surgical trauma.

The da Vinci Surgical System is the only technology of its kind with FDA approval in the United States. Currently the FDA has cleared the da Vinci System for use in thoracoscopically-assisted cardiotomy procedures, including surgical repair of the mitral valve. Additional uses of the da Vinci System for specific cardiac surgical procedures are currently being evaluated in clinical investigations in the United States and have not been cleared by the FDA.
